The PYF Involved Programme has been developed to support the integration of newly arrived refugee and asylum seeking young people.

We work with young people between the ages of 8-25, by actively promoting integration within the local community and celebrating diversity and difference. We want to ensure that as many young people who may be marginalised by their circumstances have the right support mechanisms in place to be able to become active, positive and involved members of the community. We support young people to become school, community and work ready, by instilling vital transferable social, emotional and life skills.

The design of our services has been informed and developed through our direct work with newly arrived young people, local authorities, schools and other specialist agencies.

Our extensive front-line experience in this area has allowed us to support local, regional and national policies and frameworks. Ensuring newly arrived young people’s voices inform national conversations and support other professionals with reflective best practice.

Some of the work we do…

Refugee week

Positive Youth Foundation worked with partners across the city to offer a whole weeks’ worth of celebration events open for all of Coventry’s residents.

At just one of the venues in the week we saw over 600 attendances at Fargo Village at special Refugee Week events, with over 50 volunteers supporting and over 30 hours of provision. We also played a part in the wider Refugee Week celebrations at Fulham FC at the National Refugee Tournament with both of our Under 16 and Under 19 teams leaving on a high!

The hope is that through the success of partnership working and the sheer enjoyment of communities throughout, Coventry Refugee Week can be cemented into the future of the city, building year on year. The whole event was used as a pilot for the city and a researcher from Coventry University will support us in evaluating the week. Keep close to our updates and full case study of Coventry Refugee Week!
