GO PARKS SPORTS & CREATIVE COMMISSION APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

We are pleased to announce new funding opportunities to deliver youth programmes across parks and open spaces in Coventry through spring and summer 2023. The funding will support greater access to healthy lifestyles provision through culture, sport and wellbeing activity.

The 2023 Go Parks Commissions are made possible by a partnership between Coventry City Council, Coventry City of Culture Trust and Positive Youth Foundation and will enable significant cultural activity to take place.

Sports activity is supported by the Commonwealth Active Communities Fund through Sport England and managed by Coventry City Council. The fund was established following the pandemic, where the effects of isolation across the city have compounded inequalities, exacerbating pre-existing barriers to physical activity as well as creating new challenges.

Cultural activity is supported by Arts Council England, Esmée Fairbairn and Paul Hamlyn Foundation and forms part of the Coventry City of Culture Youth Legacy Commissions designed to activate and inspire new thinking, build creative skills, and support young people to take action to shape a better future for Coventry. We are looking for organisations with an interest in supporting a more sustainable and better future for Coventry’s young people. The successful organisation will design and deliver a programme of outdoor-based provision for young people between the ages of 8-25. Delivery will take place between May 2023 and September 2023.

“These commissions are a brilliant way to bring new and exciting activity to young people in the green spaces on their doorstep! We’re looking for innovative ideas that celebrate getting outside and getting active and creative” – Alex Talbott, Education and Young People Commissioner

“For our latest Go Parks project, we are seeing our delivery partner, Positive Youth Foundation, work with the City of Culture Trust to find organisations to deliver new outdoor physical activity in parks and green spaces around the city.
We hope to engage with new communities, groups and organisations, and as a result of this, get more people of all ages and abilities active in our parks. I look forward to seeing which organisations successfully apply to deliver activity and the initiatives they bring.” – Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport

“The new commissions will enable more young people and communities to participate in local activity which will increase their physical, mental and emotional health. We are excited to work with a range of partners from the Coventry Youth Partnership to showcase and celebrate our local green spaces.” – Nikki Miles, Physical Activity Lead, Positive Youth Foundation
